MLIFE launches Healing Circles Program in partnership with State of California

The MLIFE Foundation’s San Francisco team is proud to announce the launch of a new partnership with the State of California to support MLIFE’s Healing Circles Program for three years in San Francisco. Built off the successful model of similar programs conducted by MLIFE in Kenya, The Healing Circle is a 1-year program for Black-identifying youth in the Tenderloin, Mission, and Bayview/Hunters Point neighborhoods for healing, empowerment, arts, and leadership.

Youth between the ages of 14-24 years old will participate in 5-10 hours per month of wellness, leadership, and community-building activities meant to build their skills and confidence as ambassadors for peace and non-violence. Upon completing the program between October 2022 and June 2023, they will be eligible for a fully-expense paid cultural exchange trip to Kenya June 17 to 27, 2023 with the MLIFE Foundation.

This programming is made possible by a groundbreaking 3-year grant to MLIFE from the State Department of Corrections through the California Violence Intervention and Prevention (CalVIP) program. It will provide services to up to 45 Black youth over its three years focused on healing violence-based trauma, improving educational achievement and success, and leadership and mentorship development.

This program will draw from the work of MLIFE’s current and past violence prevention programs in San Francisco and Kenya and is based on the insight, curriculum, and lessons learned from MLIFE members throughout the world. It’s a true testament to the strength of the vision and passion from the MLIFE community that the State of California has chosen to partner with us over the next three years.
