This summer, 15 young people from San Francisco will do something they’ve never done before—leave the country, board a plane, and set foot on African soil.
They are MLIFE Scholars and Fellows, ages 14 to 24, from neighborhoods like Bayview-Hunters Point, the Mission, and SoMa. Many have faced instability, isolation, or loss. But this June, they’ll take a step toward something different: belonging, purpose, and hope.

Their 10-day journey to Kenya is part of MLIFE’s Healing Circle Program—a one-year, state-supported initiative that helps youth heal from violence, strengthen their identity, and prepare for success in school and life. The program blends reading, wellness, and workforce skills with something deeper: the belief that every young person deserves to know who they are and where they come from.
To make this trip happen, we’re raising $75,000 in the next 30 days to cover airfare, meals, housing, and learning supplies.
